Climb up Thoreau’s favorite Bellows Pipe Trail, enjoy the summit, then descend the curvy, heavily wooded Gould Trail. This is a steep, relentless, and rewarding ascent - shorter than climbing the mountain from the Williamstown side but still demanding. It is only suitable for people with strong knees, ankles, and hearts and some confidence on the trail. Leashed dogs accustomed to long hikes are welcome. Bring snacks, water, and a warm layer for the summit. Strenuous, 7+ miles, 2200’, 4-5 hours No rain date. Meet at KI at 10 a.m. to carpool or at the trailhead at Greylock Glen around 10:40. -

Some say that Kohelet (Ecclesiastes) is the most cynical book in Tanakh, while others see in the book’s wisdom some of the most realistic and pragmatic insights that Scripture has to offer. In four sessions, Dr. Hal Lewis will examine the historical context, philosophy, literary style, values, and theology of this “wacky and wonderful” biblical book. Participants may bring their own English translation of the book to each class, though HL Ginsberg’s, "The Five Megilloth and Ruth" is recommended. -
