ADOPT A HOSTAGE

As we know all too well, on October 7, 230+ innocent men, women, young people, children, and babies were abducted from Israel by Hamas into the Gaza Strip. Most of their whereabouts are unknown. Knesset Israel is offering many ways we, as individuals and as a community, can cope and help. Here is one more—Adopt a Hostage. A member of KI (Nan Bookless) has obtained copies of the posters of the people kidnapped that you have seen posted all over the world.

Email  bthposters@gmail.com and you will be emailed a printable poster of an individual hostage. You can print it out, light candles, pray, keep them on your mind—whatever you want to do to keep this person in our hearts and on our minds. This is a local, KI-initiated project.

Days after the onset of the war, Knesset Israel began praying specifically for Yonatan Samerano, a 21-year-old man who was thought to be taken captive in Gaza. We have learned, however, that Yonatan was murdered on October 7; his body was taken by Hamas and has not been returned to his family. We offer our condolences to his family and will be placing a memorial plaque in KI's sanctuary.

An empty chair is set aside on the bimah in our sanctuary for the hostages, to keep their plight at the forefront of our minds.
